New Speck HandyShell for iPad Mini Review

**I received a free case to review from Speck. But it’s legit, awesome. You know I wouldn’t lie to you. Uh-uh. Not you baby, you’re special.

Speck HandyShell for iPad MiniDid you know I recently upgraded (lateral graded) my iPad 2 to an iPad Mini? Well now ya know! I needed something a little more compact for my conferences and for other blogging related fun. And with a new Apple product comes a new Speck case. Because I love me some Speck. For real. They outfit my other Apple products already. So, obviously I grabbed the awesome new HandyShell Speck case.

You see… this case is different. Kind of weird, actually. But in a good way. Like Johnny Depp. Mmm.. that’s the weirdness I love. The HandyShell, not unlike Johnny Depp, has some cool transformative capabilities. That’s what really drew me in. That fancy schmancy handle.

I’m used to the cases that open up and you can prop it up on the cover and hope that it doesn’t slip off when you make any freaking movement at all. I mean… seriously? I read in bed all the time and my iPad, quite rudely, introduced itself to my face on too many occasions to count.

BUT that is no longer a problem because the HandyShell has a handy little handle. A handy handle. Yeah, I said it. The handle has just enough to tension to hold WHATEVER angle you want it to be propped at.

I love this handle when it comes to reading. I can easily hold up my fairly lightweight iPad Mini and not fear for my face’s safety. Did I mention 95% of what I do on my iPad is read? I’m one of those people that finds a book and pretends the rest of the world doesn’t exist until I finish the book.

Know what that means? It means I sit, lay, stand, and wiggle into about as many freaking positions as you can imagine and I need a case that can handle my diverse reading positions, ya know? The HandyShell is all over that.

I can hold it. I can stand it in portrait or landscape style. I can even hang it. I could totally see myself hanging it on a kitchen cabinet knob while I cook.. except.. ehmm.. our kitchen cabinets don’t have knobs. Kitchen fail, I know.

And the actual protection it provides is great. The rubber grip covers the entire edge of the iPad and provides a bit of a lip so you can place your iPad down, screen side down, and not worry about it getting scratched.

The only thing that I wish it would do is allow the handle to spin a bit. The handle would be more comfortable while I’m reading if it moved side to side as well as up and down.

Oh and if it came in purple… I wouldn’t hate that. Nope.

All in all, great case, as usual. Speck makes great products and I will most definitely continue to protect my Apple goodies with their products for many years to come. 🙂
