Day 9: Failure

31 Days of Being a Writer

Day Nine

“Most editors are failed writers, but so are most writers” ― T.S. Eliot

I love that quote. I fear that one day I’ll be an editor out of monetary necessity. What a terrible day that will be. I have entered writing competitions and failed. I’ve started books and failed to finish. I’ve gone through notebooks full of failed stories. I’ve dreamt up characters whom I could never flesh-out enough to put into a story.

Failure. Failure. Failure. Everyone fails. It’s not just you and me. It’s all of the world. Make your failures worth something, though. Learn from every failed competition. Learn from your failed stories. Don’t toss them away. Save them for the day you’re inspired to fix your failures.

When you do have a success, enjoy it. Make sure you enjoy your successes ten times more than you wallow in your failures.

Failing is educational. As PBS has taught us over the years… “The more you know, the more you grow,” right? 🙂
