S’more Cake Balls

Smore Cake Balls

All the flavor and fun of the camping treat without any of the mess.

If you’ve ever made cake balls or cake pops before then this should be easy peasy for you. If you’re a newbie to the cake ball/pop world then it may be a little challenging at first but I’m sure you can get the hang of it really quickly.

I started off with my own cake and frosting recipe that is specifically designed for cake pops/balls. It is the recipe that I use for The Sugar Bar products soooo I’d rather not give it out. πŸ™‚ But, luckily this recipe tastes great using a Devil’s Food cake mix from a box (any brand) and 3/4 can of chocolate frosting.

What you’ll need:

1 box of cake mix chocolate or devil’s food

1 can of frosting (you’ll only be using 1/2-3/4 of it)

2-16oz packs of milk chocolate almond bark

48 miniature marshmallows

About 8 crushed graham crackers

Make the cake per the directions on the box. Let it cool, completely. Crumble it into a large bowl and add the frosting. Using your hands, mix it until it is all combined.

At this point, I usually leave it in the fridge overnight because I don’t like doing it all in one day, it’sΒ time consuming. But, if you’d like, you can begin rolling the balls right away or put the mixture in the fridge for about an hour to make it easier to roll.

I use a small melon baller to help keep all of the balls uniform. I scooped, rolled into a ball, made a crater in my ball with the back of the melon baller, inserted the marshmallow, then carefully rolled back into a ball. It sounds like a lot, but it really isn’t.

A regular box of cake will generally get you somewhere around 48 cake balls. If you have less or more, it’s no big deal because these won’t be going on sticks like traditional cake pops so weight isn’t really an issue.

When it comes to dipping I suggest you work with about 16 ounces of chocolate at a time. Follow the directions on the package to melt it, make sure to use a deep bowl which is easier for dipping.

What I usually do to prevent my cake balls cracking is I melt the chocolate in the microwave and remove the cake balls from the fridge at the same time. I let them both sit for about 10-15 minutes which allows the chocolate to cool and the cake balls to warm up slightly.

Then you dip! Line a baking sheet with wax paper and begin dipping one at a time. As soon as you drop the ball onto the wax paper put the graham cracker crumbles on because the chocolate sets very quickly. (Remember DO NOT use regular chocolate chips, they won’t ever harden)

These are a really fun alternative to traditional s’mores or even a fun twist on regular cake balls. πŸ™‚

I actually only made a few of the S’more Cake Balls because I was filling a Sugar Bar order and I was just getting creative with the left over balls. I plan on making some Lego men with the rest of my left over cake pops. Can’t wait! Oh and here’s a quick picture I snapped before the arm in the photo took off with his purchase. πŸ˜€
