Back to School

I feel like the last few weeks came and went way too fast. I started school again on August 27th and I’ve been totally consumed by it ever since. This semester I enrolled in an advertising class, which is turning out to be pretty interesting, and a media and society class.

The advertising class hasn’t had a huge workload… yet. But my media and society class has been forcing me to spend countless hours sitting with my computer. I prefer the challenge of my media class but it’s always nice having a more breezy class to go along with it.

Only five more weeks and I will already be done with this first module of classes and moving on to module II. College seems so fast paced… which is great because I feel live I’ve been in school forever. What is it… five years now? I don’t even want to think about it. But the tortoise wins the race right? Let’s hope so. πŸ˜‰

Every week I get emailed Mama Kat’s Writing Prompts and I always have the intention of doing them but I can’t ever seem to get 30 minutes of time to spare. With school and the kids I am prioritizing on a constant basis. My blog, writing, and reading seem to always suffer while I’m in school.

Thankfully, Da’Vi only has about one month before he moves back home so that should take some of the pressure off of me. Speaking of Da’VI… today is his 23rd birthday! πŸ™‚ So, happy birthday to you!

I look forward to writing more. I have developed a storyline in my mind for the last month or so. I’m finally beginning to flesh out my characters and getting a feel for the plot and twists that I want to include. I’m considering posting my progress on a chapter by chapter basis, here on Ravings By Rae, but I haven’t decided yet. On the one hand I don’t want to post things that are incomplete, on the other hand… it will give me the added pressure of continuing to write for the sake of my readers.

I have finished a fair amount of my homework for the week so I plan to make a serious effort to participate in a writing prompt this week. I’m also on the hunt for any other weekly/monthly writing prompts so if anyone has a suggestion, I would love to hear it.

Now, I can’t guarantee that between now and the time my boyfriend returns I will be able to update a ton because I have some hectic weeks coming up. I will be attending BloggyCon in Cincinnati, OH at the end of this month. So excited about that! I was lucky enough to win a free ticket during one of their twitter parties. I will also be attending the Savvy Blogging Summit in Atlanta, GA the first weekend of October. I will be going to both with my sister, Sandra, who also runs a blog. This should be a fun and enlightening experience, I’m sure. πŸ™‚

**I was planning on making a formal announcement on my blog about my changed direction but I think a little blurb will do just fine. I am no longer going to write any DIY, recipes, fashion, etc… type of posts. Instead, I will be focusing on my creative writing, my book reviews, and anything pertaining to my academic life. I feel that I have been spreading myself thin and I can’t be great at anything unless I am able to focus on my true passion; writing.

    Hey Sarah!

Glad to see you posting again. πŸ™‚ I figured that school was taking up a lot of your time. I can’t imagine how much work you have to get done.

You know, The Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond posted a chapter at a time (I think) on her blog and she ended up getting a book deal. She told the love story of how she met her husband and ended up going ‘from high heels to tracker wheels.’

Looking forward to spending time with you soon! And thanks for the link! πŸ˜‰
