Urban Decay Naked vs. Naked 2 Palette

When I bought the Urban Decay Naked Palette in 2010 I fell in love. That palette quickly became my favorite and it still is. A few months back I heard about the Naked 2 Palette coming out and I couldn’t believe it. I finally got around to buying it a couple of weeks ago for $50 at Ulta. That might sound a little pricey but considering they are all full sized eye shadows it’s actually a deal.

There are obviously some similarities and a couple of upgrades. The original Naked palette had a chocolate velvet case with a magnetic closure. This new palette is made of metal with a snap closure. The mirror in the Naked 2 palette is also considerably bigger, definitely a plus!

The original palette had a trial size of the original Urban Decay Eye Shadow Primer along with a double ended 24/7 Eyeliner pencil. One end was Whiskey the other was Zero. If you go on the website now though it no longer offers the eyeliner. It comes with an eyeshadow brush.

Naked 2 palette comes with a trial size lip-junkie lip gloss in Naked. It also comes with the double-ended cruelty-free Good Karma brush.

Now, the lip gloss instead of the primer is an upgrade I think. The old primer bottles have that odd shape that don’t allow you to access all of the product. So, inevitably most of it would have been wasted anyway. The lip gloss comes in a tube so you know you’ll be getting your money’s worth. As far as the brush vs. the eye liner, this was a definite down grade. Those eye shadow brushes are terrible. I’d rather use my cheap drug store brushes. They are softer, carry more color, and help reduce fall-out.

The mirror is a HUGE upgrade. It’s massive compared to the original palette. As far as the actual colors go… I’m undecided. I’ve loved the Naked Palette for so long and I have so many looks that I can create. I need to give the Naked 2 more time before I decide which I think is better.

Regardless, if you’re an Urban Decay fan or you love neutrals either one of these palette’s is for you. Trust me, you will now be disappointed.
