I have a love hate relationship with social media. I love sharing information but I hate the hassle it is to upload new pictures to share with my friends/followers. It seems there is finally a solution to my dilemma. The new Samsung Smart Cameras with Wi-Fi have bridged the gap and made it incredibly easy to share high quality photography straight from your camera.
I know what you’re thinking. Sharing photos and videos straight to social media sites isn’t a new idea. We all have smart phones that can accomplish this, right? Right. But those photos that we are taking on our phones are actually pretty grainy and even in the best light, they still can’t compare to a real deal compact camera, like the Samsung WB800F.
When I decided I wanted to try this camera out I knew I would be going to Sam’s Club to buy it. Sam’s Club is my favorite place to buy electronics. I’ve never had a bad experience there. They always have a ton of products on display and their prices are amazing. This Samsung WB800F Smart Camera was on sale for $249.88 (that’s $30 off)! Check out my entire shopping trip in my Google+ Story.Β
Here’s what’s in the box. The Samsung WB800F Smart Camera, a quick start guide, a rechargeable lithium ion battery, an AC charging adapter,Β an 8GB SD card, a super cute camera case, and a wrist strap. I was slightly blow away by the fact that this camera came with an SD card and a cute case. None of my previous cameras had these add-ons. Before even using the camera I knew I was in for a treat.
Isn’t she absolutely beautiful? This compact camera is so sleek yet it packs quite the punch.

And a bunch of other awesome features!
There is always a learning curve when you get a new camera but the Samsung Smart Camera app made it really easy to learn about all of the special features that this camera boasts. It has a bunch of 1-2 minute videos that make it easy to figure out exactly how to use all of the awesome features like how to connect to Wi-Fi, how to share directly to Facebook, upload to YouTube, and how to have all your photos sent straight to your smart phone. I enjoyed using the remote viewfinder to watch my kids while I wasn’t in the room with them. Sneaky little buggers! π
I was especially impressed with the ability to directly send my photos to my phone. With social media growing at such a rapid rate there is no way that any particular device could keep up all of the new social sharing sites. So, even though my new Samsung may not be able to upload directly to Path (a social sharing app), it can send my high quality pictures straight to my iPhone so that I can upload to Path through my phone. I get the best of both worlds. High quality images and unlimited social sharing.
There is no doubt that my new Samsung takes a much higher quality picture than my iPhone does, even on it’s best day. Yes, my iPhone pictures look okay on my phone. On my teeny tiny little screen. But when you upload an iPhone picture and a picture from the Samsung WB800F you can really see the graininess in the phone photo. I’ve printed phone photos in the past and been SO disappointed with the quality. I’m so happy I have this new Samsung Smart Camera to take beautiful, print worthy photos and I can still easily share them with on all my social networks.
The top photo here is taken with my cell phone. The bottom is taken with my Samsung. If you look closely you can already tell that my phone picture is grainy. The Samsung was also able to keep the lip butter tins more true to their real color. The phone picture darkened them and made the color more harsh.
Here’s a helpful tip: If you plan on uploading videos directly to YouTube from your Samsung camera (You can upload videos up to 30 sec over Wi-Fi) you will want to be near your computer the first time around. Google is all about protecting their users. Because the camera isn’t a typical device that Google is used to (i.e. a phone, tablet, computer) it won’t allow you to access your YouTube account right away. You will need to logon to your computer and tell Google that it is really you trying to login. Then you press a few buttons and you get a 10 minute time slot to login with your Samsung. After you do this one time… you won’t have to do it again. π
The Wi-Fi feature is very easy to use. Once you’ve connected to your Wi-Fi once it will remember the network and easy connect you in the future. And with the Direct Link Wi-Fi hot key functionality it’s a breeze to connect.
Now, you are probably familiar with the fact that I do YouTube videos. I’m always stressing to my viewers that you don’t need a thousand dollar camera to have beautiful high quality videos. The Samsung WB800F can produce some seriously good looking videos. Here’s one of the super short videos I took while I was testing out the upload feature on my new Samsung.
If you’ve ever made a YouTube video I don’t have to stress to you the headache that it can be to import, edit, and upload videos. The Samsung actually lets you choose the starting point and end point of the videos that you take. I know I’m going to enjoy this functionality when it comes to announcing giveaway winners on my YouTube channel. These videos are usually under 30 seconds and I’ll be happy to skip the hassle of importing/uploading.
Check out the beautiful picture I snapped with my Samsung below. I even uploaded it directly to Facebook so I could show the world what a huge dramatic baby my Jaden really is. If he was old enough to be ashamed of himself, he totally would be. π And I’ll have you know, the reason he was having a full out tear fest was because he wanted to play with mommy’s new toy and I wouldn’t let him. This picture was taken in low-light and it came out incredibly clear. You can even make out his little birth mark on his shoulder.
I’m pretty impressed by this Samsung Smart Camera and it’s ease of use. The fact that is connects directly to Wi-Fi with the touch of a button and it can record high quality videos means it gets two thumbs up from me! I’m definitely happy with these features on my #PixBundle!
I love his little mustache! Those really are great photos.
