Book Review: Real by Katy Evans

I read this because someone recommended it to me. They even compared it to the amazingness that was The Edge of Never. Let me tell you what… Real by Katy Evans is not even in the same universe of The Edge of Never. If you’re looking for what to read after Walking Disaster, this book is for you. I hated that book, though. This book annoyed the hell out of me and I had to force myself to finish it. Seriously, it was bad. There were a few things I enjoyed but for the most part… I couldn’t wait for it to be over.

The synopsis:Real by Katy Evans Book Review

A fallen boxer.
A woman with a broken dream.
A competition…

He even makes me forget my name. One night was all it took, and I forgot everything and anything except the sexy fighter in the ring who sets my mind ablaze and my body on fire with wanting…

Remington Tate is the strongest, most confusing man I’ve ever met in my life.

He’s the star of the dangerous underground fighting circuit, and I’m drawn to him as I’ve never been drawn to anything in my life. I forget who I am, what I want, with just one look from him. When he’s near, I need to remind myself that I am strong–but he is stronger. And now it’s my job to keep his body working like a perfect machine, his taut muscles primed and ready to break the bones of his next opponents . . .

But the one he’s most threatening to, now, is me.

I want him. I want him without fear. Without reservations.

If only I knew for sure what it is that he wants from me?

Let’s start with the good stuff, Remy. Remington. Remington Tate. Remington Riptide Tate. You get the idea. Somehow, despite his complete over the top attitude at life… I completely fell in love with Remy. His condition made me feel for him. It’s not something that I am very familiar with so I can’t exactly confirm that the author wrote a believable storyline but it definitely pulled me in and made me care about Remy.

Brooke on the other hand… I wasn’t her biggest fan. She couldn’t get her shit together. I didn’t understand why she did some of the things she did and I don’t really think she deserved Remy. And sweet baby Jesus… I completely hated the HUGE coincidence that was Nora. Like, for real?!?! That was just way too big of a coincidence. And don’t get me started on Scorpio or Scorpian what ever the hell his name was.

Also, I totally get why authors always make their characters have all this money.. you know so that they can prove that all the main guy/girl really wants is love because they have everything else. Yeah, okay. But at least make their worth a little believable. The fact that Remy is an underground boxer and he is somehow a millionaire. Like, for real? That’s hard for a real deal boxer to do. Let alone an underground fighter.

But seriously… the one thing I hated the most… are you ready for this? They kept ‘scenting’ each other. Seriously? He scented her? And she scented him? WTF! Are they dogs? Ew. Normally they were sweaty and gross and then they felt the need to ‘scent’. What the hell does that even mean. Gross. “He scents me. And I scent him.” That’s just weird and gross.

If you’re thinking of reading this book for the sexual stuff. Don’t bother. It’s not all that.

However, having stated all of my reasons for disliking this book… I would highly recommend it to anyone who loved Beautiful Disaster. I personally hated that book and thought it was beyond ridiculous, which is pretty much how I feel about this book. So, if you’re a Jamie McGuire fan go ahead and see what Katy Evans has to offer. I still have hope for Evans novels in the future. I definitely think she can provide me with a great book in the future.
