I’m Type A to the bone. I’m a planner. I will make a list of lists that I need to make. Wrap your head around that for a second. But sometimes life happens. For instance, I didn’t plan on breaking up with my boyfriend last month. I didn’t plan on moving to a new place about 35 minutes from my children’s doctor either. I didn’t plan on my kids getting sick this week. But what I can plan on is taking my kids to the Walgreens Healthcare Clinic instead of the driving to timbuk-freaking-tu for a visit with their primary.
Don’t get me wrong, I love their doctor. But it’s impossible to get appointments sometimes. Especially as cold and flu season starts up again. And the office is just so far away. Before their dad and I called it Splitsville, we only lived about 15 minutes away from their doctor. That’s totally doable. But now that we have moved, I need something closer and more time efficient than that. The Walgreens #HealthcareClinic is the perfect option for us. And they really cater to lots of different needs that we might face.
The Healthcare Clinic is a great fit if…
-
You don’t have a primary care physician
-
You work traditional work hours (Walgreens has hours into the evening and the weekends)
-
You are new to the area
-
You who are impatient (That’s me!) You can check the website to see if there is a wait and if not, just drop in.
- You need something in the area. (Walgreens is all over the place and pretty accessible with public transportation)
And they can do a lot more than just treat the sniffles. Their Prevention & Wellness includes a plethora of immunizations including Chicken Pox, Flu, HPV, Meningitis, Pneumonia, Tetanus, and a much more. They also treat a ton of illnesses, aches, and pains like UTIs, Bronchitis, Fever, Back Pain, Pink Eye, Sinus Infections, burns, wound closures, acne, eczema, and a whole lot more. Monitoring and management include asthma, diabetes, depression, osteoporosis and more.
For a full and thorough listing check out the Walgreens Healthcare Clinic website. It can answer pretty much any question you might have. And if you’d like to see more about my recent visit to the Healthcare Clinic check out my Google+ story.
If you have some sort of life threatening illness or a heart attack… skip Walgreens and head on over to the Emergency Room. That’s not what they deal in. But on those weekends or evenings where your kids (18m and older) are running a temperature and you want to get them checked out just to be sure… then I suggest you find the nearest Healthcare Clinic and pop on in. No appointment necessary, but you can make one if you’d prefer. You can even check wait times online. Pretty freaking cool, huh?
I think it’s awesome that Walgreens has expanded their offerings and are now doing so many things in their Healthcare Clinics. I would much rather take my kids to Walgreens and let them frolic amongst the giant bouncy balls (to the chagrin of other shoppers, I’m sure) than to have them cooped up, surrounded by sick people, and waiting for no less than 4 hours in the ER.
And if I need to grab a prescription, they can write it up at the clinic, I can step about 12 feet to the right and BAM pharmacy. Talk about convenient. They also accept most health insurances which is just good news for everyone. 😉
We don’t have a Walgreens healthcare clinic in North Carolina which is a total stinker because I really needed one last weekend. I love that you can do so much online before you even step foot into a healthcare clinic. Life is lived better online. Or something.
